In this video, I'll show a Silvery Checkerspot Butterfly laying eggs....up close. I will also show what the caterpillars look like. Then I'll show the chrysalis stage and some freshly emerged Silvery Checkerspot butterflies. It's amazing how many interesting things go on right in your own backyard. I just happened to notice this little female on the bottoms side of a sunflower leaf. When I went over to check her out, she was actually in the act of laying eggs. They can lay up to 100 eggs, and in our garden, they preferr sunflowers, but also occasionally lay eggs on black-eyed susan flowers. If you see these butterflies in your area, let us know about it in the comments.
