Drawing a diagram, such as a number line, can help us when we are solving problems about length. We will be able to see the way the lengths add up to be the whole length. The number line can help us to write addition or subtraction equations (number sentences) that fit the problem. Remember to look for clue words in each word problem that will tell us which operation (+ or -) that we need to use. We solve four word problems that involve adding or subtracting inches.
