For all the well-deserved glory, there’s one thing the U.S. Women’s National Team has not received: pay equality. The salary cap for women’s major league soccer players is 11-times less than the pay cap for men’s major league soccer players. After their thrilling victory over Japan in the 2014 World Cup finals, it was revealed that they were awarded $2 million, a fraction of the $35 million that the men’s team from Germany received after winning the cup in 2014 and a fourth of what the U.S. men earned for reaching the World Cup Round of 16. At the 2015 Forbes Under 30 Summit, World Cup Champion Alex Morgan talked about the huge pay gap, inequality and how the Women's Soccer Team is growing their influence.

@michael22753 years agoIt's based on revenue and way less people care about women's soccer than men's. This is beyond stupid. 60

@bwalyabwalya31763 years agoHonestly, can't be asking for more money as if your teams make as much money. It doesn't start with Fifa, it's starts with women's football marketing itself well enough for people to actually watch it as much as they want to watch men. It's not like you gather as much of a crowd as men's football. It's like expecting an employee of a small tech company to be paid the same as an Apple employee with the equivalent position ...27

@masonkim73 years agoYou don't see male figure skaters complaining. You don't see male strippers complaining. ^^;;;;;; 5
@
@masonkim73 years agoIf as many people watch women's soccer, she has a totally valid point to get paid equally. That's not the case. Less people watching (due to the less dynamic nature of women's sport compared to men's) = less sponsorship and advertisement revenue = less pay for the players, coaching staff, support staff etc. ...9

@mustbemazi3 years agoThe conversation is never about the difference in revenue generation, they always leave that out. 3

@Balorian3 years agoDidn't they turn down the same pay deal as the men's team in exchange for a guarantied salary? A judge dismissed a legal case on those facts I believe, yet it hasn't changed the media coverage at all. Please have this topic addressed by the media/players so a real conversation can be had on pay. ...5

@lessonsfromfilms51013 years agoI can name like fifteen male footballers like from the top of my head like not even one female footballer. Sorry, I guess it's about the draws they bring in plus the male's social media following and fanbase is vastly bigger than their female counterpart. For males football seems like kind of a sport but for females its more like a hobby ...7

@mrvan34913 years agoIf they can beat the men's team or draw with them, and if they can pull same amount of views(let's be honest, not many people want to watch some lesbians kick a ball) Then they can talk about equal pay 4

@celtwarrior78513 years agoThe women also get guaranteed $100,000/yr salary plus benefits . The women got their salaries in 2020, men got zero money. The women’s contract was what they negotiated and wanted. The men did the same. Both have good and bad, but it’s what you said yes to. ...2

@laci2723 years agoAll commenters are right+ they are paid differently than men. If men team loses, bad for them, women are paid to play, no matter if they win or lose + they have a lot of other benefits that men don't. They have negotiated these rights. Why are they complaining about? ...1

@nancybaumgartner67743 years agoDraw the crowds through merit and the pay comes . People attended and loved women’s soccer out of love and a desire to promote and support it- the spoiled brats have decided they are worth more than they are . So be it. 1

@gaulindidier59953 years agoThere’s one way to do it, play better.
@
@xexoduzx50123 years agoGlad to see people in the comments aren't falling for this greedy bs. Want to make the same as a man in football? Then bring in the same amount of crowds and viewership that men do.
@
@johnwelch6153 years agoThere is no pay inequality between men and women, there is a disparity between how much time and effort men and women will commit to work in certain fields of endeavor. @mhryciuk07853 years agoIf more people care then they will watch. If they watch the money trickles down. Not rocket science. The skills and talent simply aren't as close to the same level...why would they be paid the same?! Men in MLS dont get paid the same as men in Europe...for good reason ...
@
@ShredCo3 years agoIt's simple to "fix"... Women just need to generate as much capital, through sponsorships, advertisements and viewing rights fees as the men. Then they can be paid as much as the men. Simple.
