For all the well-deserved glory, there’s one thing the U.S. Women’s National Team has not received: pay equality. The salary cap for women’s major league soccer players is 11-times less than the pay cap for men’s major league soccer players. After their thrilling victory over Japan in the 2014 World Cup finals, it was revealed that they were awarded $2 million, a fraction of the $35 million that the men’s team from Germany received after winning the cup in 2014 and a fourth of what the U.S. men earned for reaching the World Cup Round of 16. At the 2015 Forbes Under 30 Summit, World Cup Champion Alex Morgan talked about the huge pay gap, inequality and how the Women's Soccer Team is growing their influence. @michael22753 years ago It's based on revenue and way less people care about women's soccer than men's. This is beyond stupid. 60

@bwalyabwalya31763 years ago Honestly, can't be asking for more money as if your teams make as much money. It doesn't start with Fifa, it's starts with women's football marketing itself well enough for people to actually watch it as much as they want to watch men. It's not like you gather as much of a crowd as men's football. It's like expecting an employee of a small tech company to be paid the same as an Apple employee with the equivalent position ... 27

@JudgeDredd_3 years ago They’re actually isn’t a disparity if you look at the contracts and what the player’s union voted for. 9

@ronin2233 years ago Women pro soccer players can get the same pay as men once they can beat a team of 15 yo boys. Remember when a team of 15 yo boys beat the us womens national team. 9

@BigChrisENT3 years ago More views = More money! Why can't women sports every understand this? Why do men always get blamed when we watch women's sports 5x as much as women smh 26

    You don't see male strippers complaining. ^^;;;;;;

@masonkim73 years ago If as many people watch women's soccer, she has a totally valid point to get paid equally.
That's not the case. Less people watching (due to the less dynamic nature of women's sport compared to men's) = less sponsorship and advertisement revenue = less pay for the players, coaching staff, support staff etc. ...

@mustbemazi3 years ago The conversation is never about the difference in revenue generation, they always leave that out. 3

@icestormqueen3 years ago I want the same pay too. We're all equal. 🤭 8

@Balorian3 years ago Didn't they turn down the same pay deal as the men's team in exchange for a guarantied salary? A judge dismissed a legal case on those facts I believe, yet it hasn't changed the media coverage at all. Please have this topic addressed by the media/players so a real conversation can be had on pay. ... 5

@lessonsfromfilms51013 years ago I can name like fifteen male footballers like from the top of my head like not even one female footballer. Sorry, I guess it's about the draws they bring in plus the male's social media following and fanbase is vastly bigger than their female counterpart. For males football seems like kind of a sport but for females its more like a hobby ... 7

@mrvan34913 years ago If they can beat the men's team or draw with them, and if they can pull same amount of views(let's be honest, not many people want to watch some lesbians kick a ball)
Then they can talk about equal pay

@celtwarrior78513 years ago The women also get guaranteed $100,000/yr salary plus benefits . The women got their salaries in 2020, men got zero money. The women’s contract was what they negotiated and wanted. The men did the same. Both have good and bad, but it’s what you said yes to. ... 2

@karlhans41163 years ago This shite is becoming too much
teams which can't beat U-15 dallas teams shouldn't demand higher salary

@laci2723 years ago All commenters are right+ they are paid differently than men. If men team loses, bad for them, women are paid to play, no matter if they win or lose + they have a lot of other benefits that men don't. They have negotiated these rights. Why are they complaining about? ... 1

@blowme52583 years ago They don't get paid based upon performance they get paid based upon does anyone want to watch them 1

@nancybaumgartner67743 years ago Draw the crowds through merit and the pay comes . People attended and loved women’s soccer out of love and a desire to promote and support it- the spoiled brats have decided they are worth more than they are . So be it. 1

@gaulindidier59953 years ago There’s one way to do it, play better.

@xexoduzx50123 years ago Glad to see people in the comments aren't falling for this greedy bs. Want to make the same as a man in football? Then bring in the same amount of crowds and viewership that men do.
  • @
@johnwelch6153 years ago There is no pay inequality between men and women, there is a disparity between how much time and effort men and women will commit to work in certain fields of endeavor. The woman I love is in marketing and communications and makes more than her male counterparts in competing corporations. ...

@TheGottaluvanime3 years ago Woman soccer team is getting pay more than man. Woman have a base salary and benefits. They were offer the same deal as the men but denied it because it didn't offer benefits. So the woman team are lying about being pay less. ... 2

@mhryciuk07853 years ago If more people care then they will watch. If they watch the money trickles down. Not rocket science. The skills and talent simply aren't as close to the same level...why would they be paid the same?! Men in MLS dont get paid the same as men in Europe...for good reason ...
  • @
@ShredCo3 years ago It's simple to "fix"... Women just need to generate as much capital, through sponsorships, advertisements and viewing rights fees as the men. Then they can be paid as much as the men. Simple.
  • @
@dmitrivitharana45793 years ago 1. You get paid a fraction of what you bring to the table, Male sport has greater viewer engagement and a larger number of views generating larger incomes.
    2. Male players perform at a far superior level than female players. Not one but 2 U15 boys teams beat their counties National team including the USA. Trans athletes are dominating female sport.

@forward_ever_ever25953 years ago I really like football (and yes the correct name of the sport is football-running wt a ball in your hand is NOT football). I wouldn't watch a women's soccer match on tv! However, I would watch a Juventus F.C., AC Milan!
For a women to get paid

The viewership is not there and never will be!
