"Christopher Robin was sitting outside his door, putting on his Big Boots. As soon as he saw the Big Boots, Pooh knew that an adventure was going to happen, and he brushed the honey off his nose with the back of his paw." -A.A. Milne, "Winnie-The-Pooh" (1926) For nearly a full century now, the stories of Winnie-The-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and their friends have been delighting children of all ages – on the page, on the screen, and even on stage. But how many different ways can you bring the Hundred Acre Wood to the theatre? Well, at least eleven different ways, it appears. In this video essay, Zach Barr (they/them) looks at the 91-year history of stage adaptations of "Winnie-The-Pooh," and what they may tell us about future adaptations yet to come.
