The HORI Fighting Commander OCTA is the first officially licensed controller that I've seen for the next generation Xboxes. I see GREAT potential for retro games with this thing. Unfortunately, it's hindered by HORI's weird software... 🔔GET NOTIFIED: SUB! /user/WulffDen 🛍Support the channel! @ethel723 years ago I like this short-style video! It didn't need to be fancy, but still got all the great Bob insight! I would definitely watch more of these, especially for things that might not need a full-length video, like if you get a new color of Joy-Cons or something like that! ... 2

@FoxMedik3 years ago The L3/R3 for the left bumper/trigger are used for most fight game training modes to reset the situation or other actions. its a good layout for a fight pad but the $30 fighting commander is a better deal for what you get, and they're built well enough to deal with being thrown in backpacks and stuff. ... 3

@SockBot3 years ago “It didn’t work for what I wanted, decent for some things, but all together slightly disappointed” is SUCH a refreshing take given what we’re used to on YouTube is “BEST CNTRLR EVR OMG”. U rock Bobby 💕 3

@thesacredbeast20003 years ago even as like a fighting game guy i was super confused about the default mapping, also the fact that for the first week-ish after release you couldn't fix the shoulder buttons in the software, like a button could only be either in its default location or swapped with one other button, so it was literally impossible to get to the correct shoulder buttons since that requires two swaps. ... 2

@dannewhall52563 years ago I am a clean freak when it comes to my tech, I gotta make sure that all my stuff is free of dust and stuff. So every time I see Bob's controllers I have a mini heart attack from the amount of hand grime on them... 24

@graefx3 years ago I've got the commander 4 for PS3/4 and at least by feel, it's my favorite controller for games where it works. Just wish it was easy to replace parts like a stick. Assuming the software gets some updates in the future, i might have to invest into a retro box set up. ... 1

@seadx63 years ago Bob Retroarch saves the layout for each controller, go to your N64 core and in the quick menu map your buttons, save for the content folder 3

@TakumiJoyconBoyz3 years ago I actually originally got the Switch one for Genesis games, especially because I can remap it both on the Switch and through Steam's controller configuration menu. If they ever improve the remapping software on this one I might wanna get it too. ... 1

@penguinvader70573 years ago I got this controller for PC and switch fighting games (using a magic ns adapter for switch), it's been working pretty flawlessly for the ones I've tried (blazblue, under night in-birth, skullgirls, dbfz). I love the microswitches on the face buttons, and the layout makes sense for fighting games (and basically every fighting game under the sun is fully rebindable anyway). Only thing is I prefer + shaped dpads over disc ones, but as far as disc dpads go it's a good one. ...

@MisterSouji3 years ago Theres a Street Fighter 5 controller for ps4 thats similar to this. @pink_pariah3 years ago Launching games/emulators through Steam on PC allows the controller to be mapped per application. I used it to have actual analogue controls in Mario 64 DS, pressing a button to move the mouse to the touch screen and having the left stick rotate around that point. ...

@noxdg3 years ago I understand 100% about wanting an all-in-one retro controller for emulation. Having multiple controllers and switching them out is a pain sometimes. But... I always go back to the original console controllers which the games were designed for because they work so well and with little hassle. ...

@UmeastudentTV2 years ago I will get my controller in a couple of days. My hope is that I will be able to map it properly in Batocera since that UI is so much more stable than Retroarch (which is kind of weird).

@warbossgegguz679last year The PS4 version of this is my go-to controller both for SEGA/Arcade emulation and for fighting games as a whole. Glad to see someone talk about it.

  • @
@goldpieceleo3 years ago I get why they made the left triggers left stick press and right stick press so it would be easy to play charge characters in Street Fighter. Imagine if you can just press those buttons the whole time it would be easy to spam charge attacks at the same time your other fingers are free to do the combos. ...

@ThatGamingGuyfromthe70s3 years ago The layout is good for street fighter etc. It looks like good controller for pc/raspberry pi. Having a half baked software solution really holds this back, one day they might update it.

@ThePenguinOfTime3 years ago You can set core specific controls on retroarch without changing the overall controller layout. Plus I do not see how retroarch is unintuitive. I have used it with ease since the xmb layout released.

@chucktownattack3 years ago Damn it looks nice but the limitations are just too much. Might snag one of those Switch controllers tho!

@NicholasLash3 years ago I have the regular hori fighting commander for Xbox for KI and SF4. I wouldn’t recommend fighting pads over the 8bitdo controllers if you are wanting something for retro emulation or the Switch.

@jaytd93933 years ago Why aren't LB and RB the face buttons and the bumpers the thumbstick presses and trigger normal? The way they did it is so weird.

I ordered the controller you suggest for switch bc I wanted an extra Controller and I think it will be great for my Boyfriend, bc he always has a hard time adapting to switch layout (he normally plays xbox) and so I can give him a profile on this Controller which swaps a and b and x and y. Thanks :) ...

  • @
@mike195583 years ago What’s that gane where you become koopa troopa?
  • @
@kubev3 years ago Yeah, this controller is a huge bummer as long as the app remains so limited. I mean, given how few buttons you can currently remap in the app, it kind of seems pointless to have a button dedicated to switching between four button mapping profiles on the controller. There's an older Fighting Commander available for PC and Xbox One, but HORI for some reason sees fit to make small alterations to each version of the controller between platforms to limit usability. For example, the PlayStation 3/4 version of the Fighting Commander allowed you to make the d-pad mimic either analog stick, while the Xbox version only allowed you to mimic the left stick. However, the Xbox version allowed you to do full button remapping, while the PlayStation version only allowed you to toggle between presets. It's really strange. What really bugs me about the Octa is that it's so dependent on an app that's currently not all that great, and we'll be completely out of luck if the app becomes unavailable (since there's no way to install it with a standalone Win32 installer). ... 2

@TheLordDai3 years ago lol that switch version is the previous version of the fighting commander. That thing is really well regarded in the fgc but everyone complains you chew through them something awful. This new one, we'll see I suppose. The switch one is also missing features from the ps4 one, no turbo function. ...
