@hazelmcdermott97785 years ago when i was in 8th grade they made us do an egg baby project and we had to build a carrier for our eggs as we had to have them on us 24/7, and at the end of the project we would do a few tests to see how safe the container was etc including an egg drop from around 8-10ft high. I used a styrofoam coffee cup stuffed with a mix of cotton balls and fabric stuffing, wrapped the cup in duct tape (partly for decoration, partly to act as more padding on the outside of the cup to hopefully absorb some shock from the drop.) I used a small half-moon shaped piece from another cup to act as a sort of cover over the egg and packed more cotton around it. Mine was one of 3 eggs out of a class of 20-25 students that made it past the egg drop portion (we also did an egg toss and carrying it across the room on a spoon) Just a few tips for secure container that didn't cost more than 5$ or take more than 20 minutes to build. ...

The glove idea seemed pretty smart. I think the sponge idea works but the shock absorption needs to break more to absorb energy, not just store it like a spring. ...

A big issue with your combined efforts is that the egg put a lot of weight on the top, while the paper lamp had lots of air resistance. If you drop a tennis ball attached to a string, the tennis ball will fall first, and the string will trail along behind it. The egg was basically pulling the paper lantern down behind it. ...
